ARTIST STATEMENT

As an interdisciplinary media artist, my process takes various forms including interactive installation, video, virtual art, and mobile experiences. In designing new concepts and forms from an Intermedia perspective rooted in the traditional studio arts – yet drawing on intersections between the arts, sciences and technology. I am particularly interested in developing immersive, spatialized environments that can immerse a viewer within an experience.

I position my work to act as a mediator between tangible and implied space – creating a potential for the transformative nature of a composition. In developing these liminal forms, I pursue the construct of shape, sound and image that affords interaction at its most fundamental level. Throughout my career in engaging the arts, technology, and the sciences, I have come to value the synergy of collaboration and have produced numerous intermedial projects – working closely with artists, technicians and scientists.

New media extends the range of traditional processes by employing a palette of time, motion, interactivity, and extensions of presence. I find that the ephemeral qualities of electronic and intermedial works, by their very nature, are inherently transformative. The significance of the tangible becomes fleeting, shifting emphasis from the object and toward the experience.
